LoCA 2007 Call for Papers

3rd International Symposium on Location and Context Awareness
September 20th-21st. Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich, Germany
(right after UbiComp 2007 in Innsbruck, right before the Oktoberfest in Munich)

The 2007 Symposium on Location and Context Awareness seeks new and
significant research on systems, services, and applications to detect,
interpret and use of location and other contextual information.
Context includes users’ activities, goals, abilities, preferences,
interruptibility, affordances, and surroundings. With context, we can
expect computers to deliver information, services, and entertainment
in a way that maximizes convenience and minimizes intrusion.
Developing awareness involves research in sensing, inference, data
representation, and design.

Laser-etching LUCI

1.jpg

I blame it on decaffeinated coffee at the Pervasive PC meeting. If they didn't work me so hard, I wouldn't have gotten so delirious. They certainly shouldn't have let me near the laser etcher in that state, with the associated side effects...

Dr. Roberta Lamb

LambR.jpg

From Debra Richardson, Dean of ICS:

"Dear Friends,

It is with deep sadness that I share with you news of the passing of our faculty member, Roberta Lamb.

Roberta passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon at Irvine Regional Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.

Roberta joined the Informatics Department as Associate Professor in April, coming from the University of Hawaii. For such a short time, she had a great impact on our community.

Her affiliation with UC Irvine began in 1987 as she pursued her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees at the then Department of Information and Computer Science under the supervision of Professor Rob Kling.

In her career, Roberta made great contributions to research in information systems and social and organizational informatics, focusing on information and communication technology use within organizations and in widely dispersed socio-technical networks. Roberta was also widely recognized as an excellent teacher and mentor to students.

She served as deputy editor of The Information Society, associate editor of Information Technology and People, and social aspects theme editor of the Journal of Digital Information.

Roberta is survived by her partner Bryan Egan and her sister Donna.

There will be no public memorial service.

The family urges that all young women be vaccinated for the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Infection:
Cervical Cancer Campaign
National Cervical Cancer Coalition
Center for Disease Control

Roberta will be sadly missed, I know you join me in honoring her memory.

Debra
